Field Assessment of Selected Critically Endangered Species

 
Through fieldwork supported by The Red List Project (TRLP) the department is monitoring the population of several species that are critically endangered.

Conservation Assessments of Jamaican Tree Species Towards BGCI’s Global Tree Assessment

Through support from the Botanical Gardens Conservation International the department has acquired equipment to carry out assessments of Jamaican tree species.

Revisiting the Jamaican Red List Species: Their Past and Current Status, Updates and Recommendations for Moving Forward

This project is aimed at reviewing, updating and formulating recommendations to improve the conservation of Jamaican plant species listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List.

 

Mason River Protected Area Invasive Species Control and Habitat Restoration Projects

  • NEPA Support

This project primarily targets the removal of Vampire fern (Dicranopteris pectinata) and replanting of native species within the ‘Reserve’ of the Mason River Protected Area, Clarendon.

  • Jamaica Conservation Partners (a project of the C.B. Facey Foundation Foundation) Support

This project targeted a specific area for the removal of the invasive Vampire fern (Dicranopteris pectinata), replanting of native species and restoration of the site within the ‘Reserve’. Additionally, to improve public awareness through the dissemination of information about the Protected Area. A booklet highlighting the biodiversity of the Mason River Protected Area was one of the outputs developed.
