The Natural History Museum of Jamaica (NHMJ) is dedicated to preserving, studying, and showcasing the rich biodiversity and natural history of Jamaica. We are committed to increasing public understanding and appreciation of Jamaica’s unique flora, fauna, and ecosystems, while promoting the conservation of our natural heritage for future generations.
Our Story
Established in 1879, the Natural History Museum of Jamaica is the oldest institution of its kind in the English-speaking Caribbean. For over a century, we have been at the forefront of natural history research, collection management, and education in Jamaica. Today, we hold an expansive collection of specimens and offer visitors an immersive experience into Jamaica’s unique natural environment, from the mountains to the seas.
