The book collection contains many rare and valuable works which are important reference to Botanists worldwide. Among valued works are the 1696 Catalogus Plantarum and Sloane’s Jamaica Vol. I, and Vol. II 1725. These works, some illustrated describe about 800 species of plants, many of which were new to science at that time, and the major part collected in Jamaica.
Other important volumes in the collections are:-
- “A Civil and Natural History of Jamaica” 1756 by Browne
- Four extremely rare and valuable volumes on orchids named for a famous 19th Century Australian Orchidologist.
